Polluting junkyard owners pay $330000
HUDSON FALLS -- The owners of an auto junkyard and car-crushing business will pay more than $330,000 in fines and restitution to the state for spilling toxic chemicals into the ground and air, under a settlement announced Tuesday by the Attorney General's Office.
The settlement by East Side Used Auto Parts, formerly of 3614 Burgoyne Ave., Hudson Falls, owned by James Marro , and Northern Car Crushers, owned by Marro and George Moore , ends a three-year-old lawsuit brought by the attorney general.
Marro and Moore agreed to clean up the site, which is no longer used by their business, as well as pay $128,500 plus interest for violations of state air, water, vehicle dismantling and other environmental laws and reimburse $204,865 spent by the state Environmental and Spill Compensation Fund to investigate the junkyard.
"Illegal operations at this junkyard put the health and safety of the community at risk by repeatedly and recklessly polluting the environment," said Attorney General Eric Schneiderman . "This settlement ensures that the damage to the community is repaired."
The businesses, shut down by a state-sought court order in 2009, allegedly crushed cars without properly draining fluids, which allowed gasoline, petroleum, antifreeze and Freon to pollute the ground and nearby wells, the lawsuit said.
The state Department of Environmental Conservation issued more than two dozen violations against the junkyard in less than a year.
Residents who live nearby had repeatedly complained of headaches, nausea, breathing difficulties and loss of sleep. The property borders a residential neighborhood on three sides and a public school on the fourth.
After being closed, the two men moved their business to an industrial park, according to the attorney general. Schneiderman placed a $150,000 lien against Marro's assets to ensure adequate funding for the cleanup.

Why? Car batteries will not make the scooter faster. Going higher in voltage would BUT you’ll burn up the controller or the motor if you don’t set the system on fire or wreck and injure or kill yourself because those scooters are inherently unstable.
Better idea: get a regular scooter, gas or electric, that will travel faster
The best way to go about increasing the power of your electric motor would be to find batteries in the same voltage of the system(not car batteries) and place the batteries in parallel. battery life wont be great but you can increase the speed for sure.(or just do an engine swap)
If you use a car battery ( 12V and 600 CCA) you’ll exceed the amp limit for the wires, you will melt them, the controller, and will most likely mess up your electric motor.
