Amazingly, silk moths are capable of laying as numerous as five or six hundred eggs in a clutch.The resulting larvae are greedy feeders, the very best food source is the leaves of the mulberry bush.The larvae can grow up to eight centimetres long.Following this intensive consumption, they start to spin their coccoons. Their incarnations as caterpillars lasting a matter of weeks. What we recognize as silk, is the thread spun by silk worms for their coccoons.
