Five new members join Windham & Windsor Housing Trust board

BRATTLEBORO—BRATTLEBORO — The Windham & Windsor Housing Trust (WWHT) held its 24th annual meeting on June 9 and elected five new board members to its expanded organization, as well as two new advisory members.

WWHT serves both Windham and southern Windsor County out of its offices in Brattleboro and Springfield.

“The addition of these members will help ensure representation for our entire service area,” said Connie Snow, executive director of WWHT. “We are so fortunate to have with us people who are so well known in their communities, and who can bring a breadth of experience and expertise to the work that we do. All seven new members believe in and support our mission.”

New board members include:

• Dan Yates, president of Brattleboro Savings & Loan (BS&L), and a longtime supporter of the Windham Housing Trust, is one of the new southern members of WWHT. BS&L serves the Brattleboro community and operates The Springfield Savings & Loan, which is located directly across the street from WWHT’s new Springfield Office.

• Teta Hilsdon, operations manager of the Brattleboro Museum and Arts Center. She is a self-employed potter, and adds both to the Brattleboro representation and to the development committee.

• Rep. Alice Emmons, D-Springfield. She has served in the Vermont House of Representatives since 1983 and, as a native of Springfield, she brings a lifetime of knowledge of the Springfield area.

• Barbara Ternes, director of Parks Place in Rockingham, an organization with a long-standing history and reputation for serving the community of Rockingham.

• Jeanette Staley, who has served on the boards of Westminster Cares and the Village of North Westminster. She currently works at the Harlow Farm Kitchen in Westminster.

In addition, two advisory members will serve on the board:

• Richard Crocker, a contractor from Chester who currently serves on the Board of Vermont Legal Aid and the Vestry of St. Luke's Episcopal Church. He has served on the Rockingham Area Land Trust Board for the past 17 years, many of those years as board chair. He is the current 2011 recipient of the Thomas C. Yahn Housing Leadership Award for his work on behalf of affordable housing.

• Ron Theissen, a Certified Public Accountant and Certified Financial Planner from Chester. He is the owner of Skygate Financial Group, LLC, and Ronald J. Theissen, CPA, CFP, and brings his many years of experience working on affordable housing.

Preview the New Diocese of Vermont Website - Christ Church, Montpelier

The new website for the Diocese of Vermont is now open for exploration. Visit the homepage at www.diovermont.org and take a tour. It has a new logo, and some bits of the color scheme will be refined in the next few days. This is a chance to watch something bloom!

Some pages will say "coming soon," and they are, but, as Bishop Ely notes below, it will take some time to get everything moved. The lists of committee members and other contact-type information will be linked to the new database, and that is not quite ready. Meanwhile, the old site with its many resources is still available.
Once the old site is no longer needed, both addresses will take you to the new one.

One very new feature of the site is its "social component," which you will enter if you click "Find a Church" or "Our Online Community." Each congregation has a page with a format and function that will be familiar to users of Facebook, and the opportunities for using those pages to stay connected are yours to play with. To get started, go to "Our Online Community" or "Member Access" in the dropdown menu under "Home" and sign up. The site has features to protect your email address. Eventually, committees and groups in the Diocese will be able to create their own groups right on our site.

There will be new features added and more and more content as site development proceeds. Please let me know if you experience any problems, or if you think something is missing. And thank you for your patience as the old site migrates to this much friendlier new environment. From Bishop Ely's welcome on the new site:

I am pleased to welcome you to the new website of the Episcopal Diocese of Vermont. If you are a member of one of our 48 congregations, or have familiarity with The Episcopal Church, then my hope is that you will find this website useful and helpful in the exercise of your ministry. If you are a person who happened upon this site as you were searching for information about The Episcopal Church, the Diocese of Vermont, or in connection with a general inquiry about faith and spirituality, then let me extend a warm and personal greeting to you to enter this “doorway” into the Episcopal Diocese of Vermont, where I hope you will feel our glad welcome and hospitality.

This new website project has been a priority for quite some time, so it feels exceptionally good to see it come to life. The target date for launching the new website was Pentecost. We almost made it and I am pleased that we are able to launch the new site in this first week of the “Season of the Spirit” on Trinity Sunday. As with any new project like this, there are many factors that come into play, so I’m asking for your patience as we work to make this new website fully functional. In the meantime, the old website will continue to be available as a source of information.
