Paul McCartney's one-man band
Is littered with song fragments, a few instrumentals, some experimental tracks, throwaways (in the best sense of the word) and a couple of the most memorable tracks he ever produced in his solo career. The homespun, rough-hewn feel of the album might seem like a revelatory listening experience, particularly for those who are only used to the myth of the Paul McCartney that only makes slick, commercial pop.
Now you can re-experience this album and its sister title, McCartney II The album is worth purchasing if just for “Every Night” and “Maybe I’m Amazed” (both included in fine live versions on the bonus disc). The former is a perfect pop tune -- the kind that Paul seems to write effortlessly, while that latter is one of the best songs McCartney ever composed. And the performances are equally impressive, with McCartney excelling on every instrument. It is a talent of his that is often overlooked. McCartney II arrived 10 years later and about 11 months after the last Wings album. Perhaps it does not hold together as well as the debut, but it's still an impressive one man show. It also showcases McCartney experimenting with early synthesizers. Over 30 years later they do not really sound dated as many synth-based albums would throughout that decade. “Coming Up” is the stand out here, with its incessant rhythm section and catchy chorus. It contains a fine synth performed horn section as well. John Lennon was a big fan of this song as he said in this interview . The lyrics also have an anthemic quality typical of some of Lennon’s early solo singles. “Waterfalls” and “Summer’s Day Song” are pretty, melodic ballads and the introspective acoustic “One Of These Days” is so sonically bare, it sounds like a demo. “On The Way” is a slinky blues number with some great all around musicianship and “Nobody Knows” sounds like scrappy ‘50’s rocker. Some of the experimentation is hit or miss. “Bogey Music” is the very definition of filler and “Temporary Secretary”, while having an interesting sequencer part, isn’t among McCartney’s better tunes. The instrumentals of "Front Parlour" and "Frozen Jap" work better and focus on the man's gift for melody. The bonus disc will give you more of this type of material which is akin to McCartney playing musical mad scientist in his audio laboratory.

ONE FINE DAY LYRICS - THE KINKS
One fine day now
My baby's coming back home to me.
One fine day now
We'll be as happy as happy can be.
Well I saw my baby comin' up across the hill
Well I'm a hootin' and a hollerin' 'cause I love her still
I said whoa yeah one fine day
I said whoa yeah one fine day
I said whoa yeah one fine day
One fine day now
My baby's arms will hold me tight.
One fine day now
I know our love's gonna be all right.
