MISSOURI RIVER FLOODING

ST. JOSEPH - Flooding along the Missouri River is making it difficult to get around for many residents in the area where Missouri, Kansas, Iowa and Nebraska come together. Interstate 29 is shut down in the region, and the St. Joseph (Mo.) News-Press reported Wednesday that every bridge across the river from St. Joseph to Omaha, Neb., is closed. So are sections of several other major roadways, including U.S. 275 and U.S. 136 in northwest Missouri.

MISSOURI-GIRL SLAIN

JEFFERSON CITY - A Missouri judge has blocked prosecutors from using part of a teenager's statement to police in her trial for the slaying of a 9-year-old neighbor girl. In a decision released Wednesday, Cole County Circuit Judge Patricia Joyce said a juvenile officer wrongly participated in a state Highway Patrol interview of Alyssa Bustamante. The judge said the officer "used deceptive tactics" while encouraging the teenager to tell the truth about the death of Elizabeth Olten in October 2009.

BRANSON-FLOOD BUYOUTS

BRANSON - People whose homes were flooded by Lake Taneycomo in April and May have begun the process of determining whether to participate in a government buyout of their properties. About 100 Taney County residents who gathered Tuesday to hear from government officials about the proposed buyout were told the most difficult hurdle might be whether local governments will be able to contribute enough to make the buyouts viable, The Springfield News-Leader reported.
