AMD Radeon HD 6970
AMD launched the Radeon HD 6970 on December 14, 2010, alongside the Radeon HD 6950. The Radeon HD 6900 series of GPUs sports AMD's VLIW4 architecture, which is different from the 6800 series' VLIW5 architecture. It features a greater degree of parallelism in its processing engine, owing do its dual-setup engines. VLIW4 was implemented in order to increase both efficiency and performance in its streaming processors.
The Radeon HD 6970 is comprised of 2.64 billion transistors, providing 1536 streaming processors, 96 texture units, 32 color rasterizers, and 128 Z/Stencil ROPs. It boasts an impressive 2.7 TFLOPS of computer power on the GPU, texture fill rate of 84.5 Gigatexels per second, and a pixel fill rate of 28.2 Gigatexels per second. The HD 6970 has 2048MB of GDDR5 memory clocked at 1375MHz (or 5.5GHz DDR) on a 256-bit bus. Its memory bus boasts a maximum theoretical throughput of 176 Gbps.
The Radeon HD 6970 is designed with a maximum power rating of 250 Watts. It is supposed to draw an average of 190 Watts during gaming and 20 Watts when idling. It has one 8-pin power connector and one 6-pin power connector. There are five output ports, including two DVI ports, two mini-DisplayPort connectors, and one HDMI connector.

The PowerColor PCS+ Radeon HD 6970 features an overclocked AMD Radeon HD 6970 GPU with 2GB of GDDR5. Out of the box, the GPU comes clocked at 940MHz , which is a 60MHz increase over AMD's reference specification of 880MHz. The PowerColor PCS+ Radeon HD 6970 is both clocked faster and priced higher than most of its Radeon HD 6970 based competitors. Aside from its overclocked nature, the PCS+ Radeon HD 6970 also includes an improved cooling device. It features a large aluminum heat sink with four copper heat-pipes kept cool by two 9cm cooling fans.
The PowerColor PCS+ Radeon HD 6970 has a two-year warranty. With the unnecessary and destructive excess of the lifetime video card warranty in its twilight, many companies are adopting 3-year warranties. PowerColor's two-year warranty my thus seem short by comparison, but we find it to be adequate. Most warranties don't transfer to second owners anyway, and many of these video cards will barely see a single owner through a year.

Double Data Rate (DDR) memory is the staple of the consumer market. It has taken off due to public demand and now comes quite reasonably priced.
Computers don't generally come with less than 256MB of memory nowadays. My computer after freshly installing Windows 2000 (no, I haven't gone to Windows XP yet) takes about 80MB or memory. That is the very least, with no additional programs or anything else installed. After I have installed all the graphics drivers, Internet connection software for ADSL, virus protection and firewall it takes around 160MB of total memory.
From my previous experience, 256MB will do, but after it becomes quickly filled when running a few programs, Windows reverts to using the hard drive for memory. It's a way to fake more memory, by using the hard drive as a temporary store. 512MB now does it for my needs, but if you run many programs or memory intensive ones, 768MB or even 1GB will do better.
But is memory size the only factor?
An equally important factor is the memory speed. It is measured in MHz. Most systems use 400MHz DDR memory. This would be the safe bet with almost any processor you may have. 400MHz has also become the most common to buy, there is not much slower than that left to buy.
Memory from a reputable manufacturer will ensure that you don't have problems with it and will also provide a certain amount of overclocking if you are into that. Even better would be to get faster memory, it just runs down at the computers speed, even if it is designed for more.
Another aspect of memory has come into play, being highlighted mostly by the enthusiastic overclocking crowd, and that's latency.
Memory is a bank or table of places where information can be stored. In order to get the specific rows and columns certain things have to be activated within the memory. In a nutshell latency refers to how long it takes to be able to acces another part of memory. The shorter the time it takes, the quicker it is.
