3 Ga. officials face federal corruption charges
COLUMBUS, Ga. -- Authorities say three Talbot County Sheriff's officers are facing federal public corruption charges.
Court records show that Charlie Stephens, Jeff Sivell and Alvin Malone were indicted last week on charges of extortion by a public official. Prosecutors say the three men tried to obtain money from either an FBI agent or someone cooperating with the FBI between November and December 2010.
U.S. Attorney Michael Moore called a news conference Wednesday in Columbus to make an announcement about the charges.

COLUMBUS, Ga. — Military officials say they’re doing away with vehicle stickers required for motorists entering Fort Benning, partly to protect military personnel from being targeted because they have a sticker.
The policy went into effect Tuesday, spokeswoman Monica Manganaro told the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer
It’s designed to protect personnel who work on the military installation, authorities say. Manganaro said a sticker on a vehicle identifying it with the military can potentially make someone a target.
Base employees and other staff members have been told to start removing the decals from their vehicles, she said.
Manganaro said the Air Force and the Navy have already implemented a similar policy, and that Fort Benning is ahead of many Army posts in doing so.
