Project Runway Season 5

Is 'Project Runway' host Heidi Klum too skinny?

38 year old Heidi Klum may have retired from her modeling career in 2009 but that hasn’t stopped the daring mother of four from keeping her runway figure. Just recently Klum’s representatives confirmed internet rumors that earlier in the week Klum got naked during a ‘Project Runway’ promo shoot and had approved the images for release.

Last night Klum stepped out in a bold dress at the amfAR Inspiration Gala to show her support for ‘project Runway’ co-judge Michael Kors who was honored with an award from the non-profit group. The bright blue draped gown has caused an internet stir- and not just for the amount of skin it revealed.

“There’s some buzz over photos of Heidi Klum looking almost emaciated in a curiously cut turquoise dress, to put it nicely,” celeb site Celebitchy.com reported this morning. Other celebrity and fashion sites took up a similar cry, with icydk.com going so far as to describe Klum as “shockingly skinny” .

While some pictures show ‘Project Runway’ host and judge simply looking slimmed down others reveal protruding ribs and surprisingly tiny arms. Ultimately it will be up to fans to decide how much is due to weight loss and what can be blamed on bad angles and a trick of the light.

Klum has always been known for being in shape- she walked the runway for a Victoria’s Secret fashion show just 5 weeks after the birth of her son in 2009. But the host and judge of ‘Project Runway’ has also been a vocal opponent of being too skinny. Last year the 38 year old Klum grabbed headlines when she told Self

'Project Runway' Season 8, Episode 5 Recap

) This was the first season of 'Project Runway' in which the contestants were broken into only two teams. This episode allowed the editors to have "The Gretchen Show" slowly implode during the judging, as she spent the whole time defending her clothes, then trying her best to distance herself from the whole collection. There is an editor out there who hates Gretchen and loved watching her fall apart. The challenge was really simple: The teams had to create a six-piece collection that would follow the trends of Fall 2010. Each collection would be given two inspirations, one concept, one textile and a team budget of $1,000. They also had the help of Peter Butler from Garnier to guide them with their hair. Each person had to pick the next person in their team, very similar to the now-standard 'Survivor' schoolyard pick. I'm very surprised how low Valerie ended up being in the group picks, after she was once the bridesmaid of the top designers. It was a given, though, that the last four picked were in the bottom three before. April quickly chimed in, calling Gretchen "Hitler" and claiming that her team would become a "clusterf*ck." Gretchen took over her team and Ivy become her little lap dog, agreeing to every whim that Gretchen made. The contestants had 45-minutes at Mood and the teams spent most of their time together, with the slight exception of Michael C., who wandered around to pick zippers. We were also treated to Gretchen and A.J. dancing. Why can't the 90 minutes be filled with silly moments instead of the contestants bitching about each other? After time was up, Tim gathered the contestants and said goodbye to the dog. When the teams returned, Gretchen took over some more as she made sure each of her lackeys would churn out her idea. Ivy quickly called out Michael C. for not even knowing how to make the basics. As much as Ivy's clothes don't impress me, she's been able to make separates successfully in the time allotted. A.J. also struggled with sewing one dress. Casanova worried about his clothes and hoped that he could make his clothes "softener." His whole cycle of stress is just like last episode, with both Michael C. and Kristen: He stressed out after a harsh Tim critique, melted down, and then got an epiphany. In his case, he walked away, had a diva attack, claimed that "I'm even getting fat," and his model Sarae lifted him back up. These contestants had models? Tim critiqued the teams in one swoop. For the misfit Underdogs, he warned the contestants that lace can skew old. Peach was warned that she might make her clothes look old if she doesn't put the color under the lace correctly. Casanova's dress was starting to look like the mother of the collection. As for Team Luxe, Tim commended the team that they were being ambitious in their execution but that the clothes were ho-hum. The models arrived and Team Luxe struggled. Michael C.'s top had horrible fit and had to be done over, and A.J. had nothing to fit on his model. The next day arrived and the Underdogs watched Team Luxe run around like chickens with their heads cut off. Gretchen tried her best to keep her team together by announcing "We can do this" and Ivy echoed like a good lackey, "Yeah we can!" Ivy provided us with an underwear shot as she struggled to reach for something on her table. Gretchen tried her best to make sure that all the "grandpa sweaters" were ready. I never thought that I'd hear the words "Grandpa" and "sweater" together on 'Project Runway.' Heidi welcomed the designers to the runway. Joining Michael and Nina was guest judge fashion designer Georgina Chapman. The Underdogs started first and all the outfits looked great together. Casanova's outfit was the best, but Valerie continues to create clothes that fit her aesthetic perfectly. Team Luxe followed and the outfits looked like they came from a Bloomingdale's collection from 1987. Michael Kors was on the mark when he called Ivy's jacket a 'Golden Girl' sweater. Of all the outfits, the puffy outfit of look #3 was clearly Andy's aesthetic. At judging, the winning team was the Underdogs. Ironically, Georgina commended the designers for being individualistic in a group. Everyone had a voice and cohesion while keeping youth and spirit. They also gained Garnier points for making the hair perfect. The top performers were Casanova, who made his couture quality correct, and Peach, who finally made a youthful outfit. The winner was Casanova, but the editing proved that early on. As for the losing team, Gretchen led the explanations and did her best to inflate her collection. After the judges explained that the collection was vanilla with no individually or sex appeal, Gretchen quickly flipped and started to save herself. How about shutting up before the word vomit buries you? Ivy continued to be a good lackey and tried to get the immune Michael eliminated. A.J. chimed in that maybe the judges should look at previous experience. Michael Kors reminded us that it wasn't about the past looks; until it near the finale and they have to have a final three. The bottom two ended up being Gretchen, who back-peddled, and A.J., for making one ill fitting shirt-dress. A.J. was eliminated. After the runway show, Tim reprimanded Team Luxe for not standing up against Gretchen for manipulating them.
