SLO, Paso Robles High Schools end cap-and-gown season
Paso Robles and San Luis Obispo high schools graduated 760 seniors at respective commencement ceremonies Friday.
In what graduates and parents described as a day of celebration, reflection and gratitude, the seniors gathered together one last time to accept their diplomas and embrace their futures. Family, friends and mentors gathered, clutching balloons, flowers and cameras, to cheer, weep and observe the milestone.
Grads’ stage day
One hundred seventy-seven newly minted Morro Bay High School graduates Thursday celebrated choices past and future before walking across the stage to accept their diplomas.
For Marcelline Rodden, the classes she chose to take enabled her to become class salutatorian. They were also why she did not become valedictorian, she admitted.
She described the Class of 2011 as a group with moxie that chose to come together as a class during its senior year. She encouraged the graduates to make their own choices in life.
Grads galore! SLO County's biggest day of the graduation season
One thousand and one high school students across San Luis Obispo County had their commencement ceremonies Thursday at five local schools.
From Arroyo Grande to Shandon, young students made their last appearances as high schoolers in front of friends and family.
The day’s ceremonies replete with balloons, speeches and cheers were a mixture of excitement, hope and joy as graduates stepped into adulthood.
Let the grad party commence
As family and friends filled the stands in Titan Stadium waiting for the 240 Nipomo High School seniors to fill their seats, the soon-to-be graduates’ voices filled the area.
“High school has been tough, but it’s also been an adventure,” Megan Brixey said in a prerecorded message. “I couldn’t have done it without friends and family pushing me through.”
Rachelle Williams thanked her parents “for letting me grow into my own person.”
SLO County graduates: Greeting the future with a smile
Sixty-four students graduated from Lopez High School on the Nipomo Mesa this year.
Christian Avalos was named the continuation school’s student of the year, chosen by staff in a vote for the student they think best represents the school’s standards in attitude, behavior, attendance and school work.
