Concert to aid Mad As Hell Doctors

CORVALLIS — Singer-songwriter David Rovics will perform at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 18, at the Yoga Center of Corvallis, 111 N.W. Second St.
The concert is a benefit for the Corvallis-based Mad As Hell Doctors, who advocate a single-payer health care system. Admission is $10 to $20 on a sliding scale as a donation to the Mad As Hell Doctors.
Rovics grew up in a family of classical musicians in Wilton, Conn., and became a fan of populist regimes early on. By the early ’90s he was a full-time busker in the Boston subways and by the mid-’90s he was traveling the world as a professional flat-picking rabble-rouser.
These days Rovics lives with his family in Portland and tours regularly on four continents, playing for audiences at cafes, pubs, universities, churches, union halls and protest rallies.
His essays are published regularly on CounterPunch elsewhere, and the 200-plus songs he makes available for free on the Web have been downloaded more than a million times.
Since playing at the Mad As Hell Doctors rally in Portland that started their cross country trip to Washington, D.C., in September 2009, Rovics has done two tours of the U.S., two tours of Europe, two tours of Australia and New Zealand and one that took him to Japan and Hong Kong, and he’s released three full-length recordings of new material.
